Dive Centre FAQ’s

What essential equipment do I need?

If you are diving with us, we can provide all the gear you need as part of your training, this will be fitted prior to your course.

However, if you are new to diving and looking for your first gear purchase, we recommend that each diver starts by investing in their own mask and snorkel. A well-fitting mask is essential to a comfortable dive to make a good seal and minimise leakages. Not forgetting with your mask, and snorkel, you’re set to go snorkelling as well as diving· Fins are also a good purchase for beginners and equally can be used for snorkelling as well as diving.

I have never dived in the UK, what do I need to do?

UK diving is beautiful and we know you’re going to love it, but if you are used to warm water diving you may find it a little colder than you’re used to. For most of the year, we would recommend diving in a dry suit, so we’d advise you to consider completing the Dry Suit Diver speciality course first. Then join us on one of our dive trips to build up your experience.

I have only dived in clear tropical waters; will I be OK to dive with you?

Depending on the season and how you feel about the temperature, we may recommend you take your Drysuit speciality course first, then join some of our guided dives to familiarise yourself with local conditions and have a PADI pro on hold to help you acclimatise to UK conditions.

Where are the courses run?

Our courses are run from our centre based on Sutton Harbour, Plymouth. We also run our training in the pool and of course in open water for dives, from the shore or boat, depending on course and conditions. Pool or open water, our team of PADI professionals will help keep you at ease.

Do you offer guided dives on the boat?

Yes, we offer guided dives with our PADI Divemasters, they will guide you around our beautiful dive sites and make sure you see all the best parts of the dive. They will also keep an eye on your group’s air consumption and ensure everyone completes a safety stop before getting to the surface.

Do I need a refresher?

We would recommend a refresher dive if it has been 12+ months since your last dive, or an experienced diver a guided dive if you haven’t experienced similar conditions. Unsure, simply give us a call our team will be able to help.

I don’t have a buddy to dive with. Can I join a group?

We run the successful AQ dive club, which we have been running for the past 20 years, for a yearly fee. Our dive club arranges monthly dives as well as discounts on our dives throughout the year. Our Club is the perfect place to find a buddy and make new friends to dive with. Fun fact some of our AQ staff started as club members.
